Equestrian Center News
The Yelp  December 200 edition
Submitted by: Carol L. Holt

We continue to get our 2007 projects completed at the stables. The upgrade to the quarantine stall and construction of feedlots is done. Due to the increase of boarders at the Equestrian Center we were in need of additional space for feed storage. We now have three additional spots and a storage area for equipment.

Our security issues have been addressed by the association. The committee generously donated $1,000 towards the purchase of the cameras and Doug Lundberg volunteered his time to retrofit a cabinet for this project. We would like to thank YLP Security Manager, Joseph Shreve, for his assistance with this. Joe attended our November meeting to discuss security protocol and procedures at the stables. We were all pleased to find out that not only is he a retired police officer but he also has knowledge of horses and horse ownership.

Speaking of horses, you may have seen many of them having their feet trimmed and shoes replaced under the Oak tree in the parking lot. During the hot summer months this is the only area that provides enough shade, on a flat surface, in a workable area for our farriers. Doctoring or shoeing a horse in the 100 degree heat can be taxing on both the professional and the horse. Our request for shade will be addressed with the purchase of two new awnings. A large commercial awning, matching the existing colors of other structures, will be placed at the back of the Equestrian Center over the concrete wash area. The addition of this awning will add to the overall quality and upgrading of this YLOA amenity. We will also be replacing the awning above the lower arena.

Michael Neveu and YLOA maintenance will be meeting with contractors on the lighting project which most likely will require the installation of another pole by PG&E. This is in response to the need for additional lighting at the stables.

At our November meeting we installed new committee members. Thank you to the following who stepped up to serve in the coming year; Kathy Roussin, Chairperson, Diana Pierce, Vice Chair, Tammi Edmonds, Secretary, Carol Holt, Treasurer, Stacy Soulis, Events and Show Chair, Steve Kelley and Amy Plantaz, Maintenance, Tiffany Lynch will serve as an at large committee member.

From all of us at the YLP Equestrian Center, we wish everyone happy holidays.
